In a tragic twist of events, talented singer Ishmeet passed away yesterday.
Ismeet drowned in the swimming pool of a beach resort in Maldives Tuesday. He had gone there to perform in a carnival to be held on 1 August. Even as scores of mourners kept pouring in at the singer’s family home in Shastri nagar area here Wednesday, questions were being raised about the circumstances leading to the rocking 19 year old singer’s untimely death at the resort near Male, the capital of Maldives.
Ishmeet’s uncle Charan Kamal Singh questioned, “He had a great carrer ahead of him. We can not even understand how he can die so young? We are getting only sketchy reports from Maldives. Only those accompanying him can tell what actually happened. He did not know swimming. Why would he jump in to the deep end of a pool”? His uncle also said the mild tempered, soft spoken Ishmeet had no enemies.
Reports coming in suggest that 20 year old Ismeet was in the hotel pool with his friends when the incident occured. Ismeet was immediately rushed to the local hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Police authorities in Maldives have not yet released an official statement. As news of Ishmeet’s dead spread in India, there was a sense of shock in Music industry. Legendary singer Lata Mangeskar expressed, “Deep shock”. Abhijeet Bhattcharya, who jugded Ishmeet and was his proud supporter in Star Voice Of India, said it was impossible for him to accept the news. He said, ”I do not know how to react, he was like my son. I can not believe that Ishmeet is no more”.
Harshit Saxena, who was a finalist on VOI, lived with Ishmeet during the Voice Of India shoot. Harshit, who was also meant to be in the Maldives with Ishmeet and singers Sumitra Iyer abd Vyom from Chote Ustaad, said, “We used to live together during the shooting of both VOI and Superstar. We never saw himswim. There was a large pool quite close to our flat and he would come there and sit by it but he never went in. He did not know how to swim”. He says, he cancelled his tickets becasue of personal reasons. Harshit adds sadly, “We were supposed to do a live performance in August”.
Harshit says, “Ishmeet was a man who had the nature of proving himself. He liked to do experiments and it might have been that people with him in the pool, why did they not try and recuse him? I will only get the answers when they return. I spoke to Ishmeet 15 days ago and did not imagine that it would be the last time we would speak. I can understand the condition of his family. He was an only son and I do not know how they will cope with this tragedy”.
Ishmeet’s co participant on Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar Abhijeet Sawant said, he remembered Ishmeet’s maturity despite his young years. Abhijeet recalls, “When I and Debojit were discussing something he would chat with us really nicely. He was very focussed on his singing and said he wanted to be a chartered accountant”. Abhijeet said he was surprised that the accident would happen in a pool. He said, “Swimming pools are never so deep that people can not be recused from them. And if you are not in the water in Maldives, there is no point in going there. I wish I had been there with him. I know how to swim and I would have recused him”. Abhijeet did not think of Ishmeet as being the kind of person who would take risks.
Abhass Joshi, who participated in VOI says he was also supposed to be in Maldives but could not make it becasue of another shoot. He says, “I was told by the event organizer that Ishmeet had been in an accident so I was tense about him. But I did not think that such bad news would follow. When he called again he told us that Ismeet jumped in to the pool from a height and hurt himself. When the doctors were called in they said he was dead.
Abhass reminisceses, who heard about the death while he was at work. Abhass says, “I was shooting with Gajji and he broke down in front of us. He could not continue shooting after that and left the sets”. Ishmeet was in his second year at college and landed in Maldives on Tuesday morning. His funeral is take place in Ludhiana on Wednesday.
